LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s cross country teams were both in action today at their own LHU Invitational at West Branch Cross Country Course.
The men’s team finished third overall with 71 points behind the University of Pittsburgh (2nd, 58 pts.) and team champion Kent State University (22 pts.)
Leading the way for the Bald Eagles was sophomore Brandon Pomerantz (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) who finished 13th overall covering the 10K course in 32:58.24.
Right behind Pomerantz was Jed Yeatts (Mercersburg, Pa./James Buchanan) who took 15th (32:58.79), Josh Trego (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley), 16th (33:03.24) and Shawn Moore (Elverson, Pa./Twin Valley), 18th (33:07).
Also turning in a strong performance for the men’s side was rookie Tim Getz (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) who finished 24th with a time of 33:23.
“I was impressed with the performances of Yeatts and Trego who were both aggressive with their races,” LHU head coach Aaron Russell said. “At this point were still working things out as it’s early in the season.”
The Lady Eagles finished with 8th overall with Shala Simms (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) turning in the top performance for LHU as she covered 6K course in 22:46.86 which was good enough for 16th place overall.
Sophomore Lindsey Scheller (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy), who was All-PSAC last season was 28th (23:30.64).
Alyssa Douma (West Milford, N.J./West Milford), 39th (23:50.30) and Teresa Gould (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), 53rd (24:20.56) both turned in strong performances rounding out a strong outing from the Haven’s top four.
“On the women’s side we still have some holes to fill,” commented Russell. “We had some good individual performances and I was pleased with our top-four runners.”
Both teams are back in action on September 28th at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University.
