LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The efforts of the Lock Haven University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) produced top honors in the inaugural “Feeding Clinton County” challenge.
“Feeding Clinton County” is a community service project organized by the LHU Student Cooperative Council, Inc., which challenged student organizations and clubs to raise the largest amount of canned goods during the month of October.
Food donations were for use by the local Clinton County food banks.
SAAC, which includes representatives from all the Haven’s sports programs, embraced the month-long challenge and turned in a grand total of 546 cans for local households.
The Lock Haven student government leaders organizing the challenge report staggering numbers of people experiencing some degree of hardship in Clinton County, estimating over 236 households in need of the assistance, including 220 children, 329 adults, and 97 senior citizens.
“The SCC’s Feeding Clinton County program was an outstanding idea and an avenue that allowed our student-athlete leaders to engage with others on campus in order to give back something to the community,” said SAAC Advisor and Assistant Director of Athletics Danielle Barney. “As one can imagine, the competition aspect of the challenge was an easy sell for the student-athletes. Further, the extent to which our student-athletes realized and embraced the importance of the food drive for the Lock Haven community aided their efforts and truly allowed them stand out.”
