LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University football team is set to travel to Brookville, N.Y. to close out the 2009 regular season at CW Post.
The Game:
The Bald Eagles are set to travel to Brookville, N.Y. to take on CW Post this Saturday (November 7) in The Haven’s 2009 season finale. Kickoff at Post’s Hickox Field (5,000) is set for 1 p.m.
LHU is 0-9 overall and went 0-7 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play. Lock Haven is coming off a 47-6 loss to Slippery Rock in the LHU’s final home game of the ’09 campaign.
CW Post is 5-5 overall and went 5-2 in PSAC East action. Post is riding a three-game winning streak and most recently downed Kutztown 42-17.
The Series:
Lock Haven and CW Post met for the very first time last year in 2008. Post took home the win in Lock Haven in a shootout, 30-28. CW Post joined the PSAC last year as an associate member for football and field hockey, following the addition of Gannon and Mercyhurst to the conference.

2009 marks the 30th Anniversary 1979 PSAC Championship:
The 2009 season marks the 30th anniversary of Lock Haven’s 1979 PSAC Championship team. Under the direction of head coach Jack Fisher, The Haven went 9-2 overall and a perfect 9-0 in conference play. The ’79-championship was the last time LHU won the conference and it marked the Bald Eagles eighth PSAC title.
Keep an eye on:
The Haven’s Wes Plummer and Dean Tortorice
Plummer is The Haven’s leader in tackles with 56. 36 of his 56 are solo stops. Last weekend he had a solid outing and turned in a seven-tackle effort, which included six solo stops and one tackle for a loss.
Tortorice is coming off a tremendous outing against The Rock last weekend. Tortorice made is final game at home a memorable one and finished with a game-high nine tackles including eight solo stops, two tackles for a loss and a forced fumble. The senior defensive back is second on the team in total tackles with 48.
Post’s QB – CW Post’s junior quarterback Eric Anderwkavich is reigning PSAC East Offensive Player of the Week and ECAC Player of the Week. Last weekend against KU, he accounted for all six Post touchdowns. He hit 21-of-33 passes for 302 yards and six TDs. He also rushed for two TDs.

Lock Haven is 0-9 overall and went 0-7 in PSAC West play.
Two week sago LHU fell 27-0 on the road at Gannon. The loss marked the 19th straight for LHU, which marks the most ever in school history since Lock Haven dropped 18 straight from 1925-27.
After starting the majority of the 2008 season, Jarryd Burkett got his first start of the season under center three weeks ago against IUP.
Two weeks at Gannon, LHU looked to spark the offense with an option package and started sophomore Shawn Faulk at QB. Faulk went 11-for-20 passing with one interception. He racked up 90 total yards through the air.
Jay Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) recorded three catches for 41 yards to lead LHU in receiving.
Lock Haven was shutout 45-0 at home too IUP. IUP entered the game on a four-game losing skid was in the midst of its third longest losing streak since 1982. This will be first time the Crimson Hawks will finish with a losing record in PSAC West play since they went 2-4 in 1981.
In the loss to IUP, LHU only managed one total yard of offense as the Bald Eagles dropped their 18th straight contest dating back to their 0-11 season last year. The 18 losses in a row tie a school record for consecutive losses from 1925-27.
There were several bright spots in the IUP game including a strong defensive effort from rookie defensive back Tyree Pompey, who had a game-high eight tackles. Five of his eight stops were solo efforts and he made one interception.
Wes Plummer had seven stops. Luke Ellison made five tackles, including two for a loss. Five other Bald Eagles had five tackles for The Haven.
Guy Clark showed his athleticism for LHU. The freshman made two tackles and had one interception, while also adding four punts for 88 yards in the second half.
The loss two weekends ago to Cal (48-14) marked the 17th straight for Lock Haven. The Bald Eagles are one loss away from tying their school record for consecutive losses (18 – 1925-27)
Two weeks ago, LHU fell on the road at No. 19 Edinboro (ranked No. 12 in this week’s American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) National Poll).
The loss marked the second of the season to nationally-ranked opponent.
Lock Haven’s lone TD was caught by Devin Sims. Sims 21-yard touchdown reception capped off an eight-play, 62 yard drive.
Clarion was the site of LHU’s last win (2007 season finale) as the Bald Eagles have now lost 16 straight games.
Lock Haven last win at home came on October 28, 2006 against Clarion (W, 14-7).
After using four different quarterbacks in the season-opening loss to WCU, redshirt-freshman Jarret Kratzer saw the majority of time under center in the Ship game. Krazter was 15-for-29 for 111 yards passing.
Junior running back Ibrahim Smith rushed for 37 yards in the loss. Smith had one touchdown, Lock Haven’s first of the 2009 season. Smith’s long run of 11 yards was the TD.
Austin Knighton led Lock Haven’s defensive effort against Shippensburg with a seven-tackle game. Four of his seven stops were solo efforts. Dean Tortorice Shane Barie and Wes Plummer all made six tackles in the game. Tortorice also had one interception, while Plummer made 1.5 tackles for a loss and recorded one sack.
In the 2009 season opener, Lock Haven was shutout 43-0 by nationally-ranked West Chester as the Bald Eagles struggled to get the offense going. LHU used four different quarterbacks, but only managed to rack up 52 total yards.
CW Post at a glance:
Despite starting the year 0-3, CW Post is 5-5 and riding a three-game winning streak. Two weeks ago Post downed perennial PSAC East power East Stroudsburg at East Stroudsburg, 42-24.
Post is averaging 413.5 yards per game and is giving up 283.1.
Anderwkavich has been the leader under center and has 20 TD passes on the year. He’s also rushed for six touchdowns.
Leading the way on the ground is Thomas Beverly, who has eight TDs. He averages 97.2 yards per game and has 972 total yards, as he nears the 1,000 yard plateau.
Chris Harris is leading Post in receiving with 72.8 yards/game and had seven touchdown catches. Darnal Williams has nine TDs and averages 53.7 yards/game.
Defensively, Peter Manns lead the team with 95 tackles, including 50 solo stops and 10 tackles for a loss.
Tayrance Smith has 72 tackles.

Football falls to The Rock 47-6 at home
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – (10/31/09) The Lock Haven University football team (0-9, 0-7 PSAC West)) fell to visiting Slippery Rock University (6-4, 3-4 PSAC West) 47-6 today at Hubert Jack Stadium in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
Slippery Rock jumped out to an early 17-0 lead after the opening quarter and SRU’s 38-0 lead at halftime paved the way to the win as The Rock snapped a three-game losing skid.
SRU set the tone early after Scott Mitchell took the game’s opening play from scrimmage 44 yards for a touchdown, just 22 seconds into the game.
Trailing 38-0 in the third quarter, the Bald Eagles finally got the board with 9:02 to play in the third period.
Jay Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) caught a pass from senior quarterback Josh Watters (Olyphant, Pa./Bishop O’Hara).
Lock Haven’s touchdown capped off a seven-play, 45-yard drive that used 2:05 of the game clock.
The Haven went for two, but didn’t convert.
Lock Haven got a tremendous effort from senior Dean Tortorice (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional), who made a game-high nine stops.
Tortorice made is final game at home a memorable one and finished with eight solo stops, two tackles for a loss and a forced fumble, as he did everything he could to help Lock Haven’s effort today.
Wes Plummer (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) was solid for LHU and made seven tackles, including six solo stops and one tackle for a loss.
The last time vs. CW Post:
Bald Eagles edged by C.W. Post 30-28 in season finale
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – (11/8/08) The Lock Haven University football team (0-11) was edged by C.W. Post (3-8) 30-28 in its 2008 season finale this afternoon at Hubert Jack Stadium.
The Bald Eagles went down early, but never let Post pull away, but just couldn’t find the answer late.
Senior Shawn Crebs (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) took full advantage of playing in front of The Haven faithful for one last time and turned in a monster performance. The tenacious linebacker kept Lock Haven in the game with a game-high 11 tackles. Seven of his 11 tackles were solo stops. He also had one tackle for a loss, forced two fumbles, recovered a fumble and recorded one sack.
LHU trailed 7-0 after the first quarter, but an Ilio DiPaolo (Orchard Park, N.Y./St. Francis) 25-yard touchdown reception cut the C.W. Post lead to 7-6. DiPaolo hooked up with quarterback Ibrahim Smith (New Bloomfield, Pa./West Perry), who saw time under center today.
The touchdown capped off a five play, 39-yard drive, but The Haven PAT failed. Post quickly responded and took a 14-6 lead into halftime.
With 12:51 to play in the third quarter Micah Coleman (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) hauled in a 38-yard touchdown reception from Jason Eby (Ulster, Pa./Athens). Lock Haven went for two, but failed to convert, trailing Post 14-12.
Coleman’s touchdown capped off a five play drive that went 47 yards to the end zone.
Both teams traded field goals as senior Brendon Pickel (Easton, Pa./Easton) connected on a 25-yard attempt to make it 17-15 in favor of Post.
LHU trailed 24-15 heading into the final quarter, but quickly struck in the final period of action as Smith scored on a seven-yard run with 13:20 play. Smith’s seven-yard scamper capped off a nine-play drive that marched the Bald Eagles 67 yards down the field.
Trailing 30-22, Eby scored on a two-yard run to the cut the lead to 30-28. LHU went for two and the tie, but couldn’t connect.
Coleman led LHU in receiving as the junior had a big day with five catches for 100 yards. DiPaolo made four catches for 60 yards.
Smith paved the way on the ground with 94 yards on 27 carries. Eby went 14-for-20 passing with one TD.
Along with Crebs, Shane Barie (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) also turned in a strong defensive effort. Barie made nine tackles, while Ryan Faddish (North Huntington, Pa./Sierra Catholic) made eight stops.
