Lady Eagles looking for fourth straight NEC Tournament title, kickoff action on Friday vs. Quinnipiac
 

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey heads to West Windsor, N.J. in search of their fourth straight Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament Title.

Setting the stage:

The 2009 NEC tournament is set to kick off with Semifinal action on Friday, November 6 at 11 a.m. This year’s tournament is being hosted by top-seed Rider at Mercer County College in West Windsor, N.J.

The Lady Eagles, the defending champions and tournament’s two-seed will play No. 3 Quinnipiac on Friday, Nov. 6 at 1:30 p.m.

Rider earned the top-seed by way of its 1-0 double-overtime win over LHU in the season finale.

No. 1 Rider will face of fwith No. 4 Monmouth on Friday at 11 a.m. before the Lady Eagles take on Quinnipiac.

2009 NEC Tournament

Looking for the four-peat:

The Lady Eagles will be looking to make it four straight NEC tournament titles. Last year at Lock Haven, the Lady Eagles soared past Rider 3-0 to win their third straight NEC Tournament title, putting LHU in the NCAA play-in match for the third consecutive time.

Dominating the NEC:

Since returning to NCAA Division I play and joining the NEC in 2004, The Haven has been nothing short of dominant. Along with its three straight NEC tournament titles, LHU also has five NEC regular season titles. (2004, 05, 06, 07 and 08). Lock Haven has gone an impressive 43-3 (.935 win-percentage) in NEC play since 2004. Since 2004 and the return to D-I play, LHU has recorded a sensational record of 98-25 (.797 win-percentage). The recent loss to Rider marked Lock Haven’s first NEC lost since the 2006 season. The loss snapped a 31-match wins streak against conference foes. Lock Haven’s last loss, prior to the Rider loss was to their semifinal opponent Quinnipiac on October 20, 2006. The Lady Eagles had been perfect (7-0) in each of the last two NEC regular season slates.

Goals, goals & goals:

Lock Haven hasn’t had a problem filling the net this year, as the Lady Eagles have outscored opponents 61-19. Since 2004, LHU has outscored opponents 412-132. During the regular season, LHU outscored its NEC opponents 29-3 and recorded shutouts in the first five conference matches of the season.

Hordendorf providing offensive spark:

Junior Amy Hordendorf has been Lock Haven’s leader on attack. During the regular season, she scored a conference-high 22 goals and recorded a NEC-best 48 points. Along with her team-high 22 goals, she also has four assists. She has five game-winning tallies and five multiple-goal games, including a season-high four against Siena.

D-Fence:

Lock Haven’s defensive effort has been sensational all year long, as the team’s only allowed three goals in eight conference matches. During Lock Haven’s most recent 13-game win streak, The Haven shutout opponents in seven of those matches. During those seven shutouts, LHU outscored opponents 26-0.

Players of the Week:

Throughout the regular season, the Lady Eagles took home four NEC Player of the Week honors. Amy Hordendorf (2x), Mary Keister and Kristi Shepps all took home the honor during the season.

Three NCAA play-in games:

By way of their three straight NEC Tournament Titles, the Lady Eagles have appeared in three consecutive play-in games. Last year, LHU was downed 2-0 at American. In 2007 Lock Haven dropped a 1-0 thriller at Stanford and LHU lost to Richmond 4-2 in 2006.

Seven National Championships:

The Lady Eagles have seven field hockey National Championships to their name. LHU won NCAA Division II titles in 2000, 1995, 1994, 1992 and 1982 (NCAA D-II). Lock Haven also has National Crowns in 1981 (AIAW D-II) and 1989 (NCAA D-III).
