GOAL, the 1977 team in action on McCollum Field

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - On November 27, 1977 the Lock Haven University men’s soccer team etched themselves in the history books, winning the first of the programs three National Championships.

2007 marks the 30th anniversary of that the dream season.

Tim Robinson scored the only goal the Haven needed in the 15th minute of action off an assist from Larry Jones as the Bald Eagles topped Cortland University 1-0 in the 1977 NCAA Division III National Championship game.

The 1977 team went 14-4 overall while capturing the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) title and the NCAA D-III East Region crown on their way to the national title.

That dream season in ’77 sparked the Bald Eagle program as they went to capture five consecutive conference crowns and made it back-to-back national championships in 1978.

Since then the Haven has three national crowns and 20 conference titles to their name as the programs rich string of success was grounded in that fall of ’77.

On Saturday, Sept. 29 when the Bald Eagles take on Kutztown University at McCollum Field the men’s team will honor that the 1977 team and it’s members.

Many members and of the ’77 team will be on hand with numerous other men’s soccer alumni there to celebrate the tremendous success of the men’s soccer team at the Haven over the last 30 years.

One of the members of that team who will be on hand is Larry Jones, who recorded that all important assist in the '77 final.

"It's a special feeling everytime you think about the championship, your teammates and the university," Jones said. "I know we are all looking forward to our return trip to the Haven this weekend."

Come out and support the men’s team Saturday on this special day for the program. On hand will be guest speakers and picnic will follow.

Itinerary for Saturday’s celebration:

1:00 p.m. - Arrival of Alumni at McCollum Field (registration at white tent)

2:00 p.m. - LHU vs. Kutztown on McCollum

3:00 p.m. - Halftime of match, all men’s soccer alumni present invited to be recognized on the field

4:00 p.m. - End of match, Alumni meet a picnic tent

4:35 p.m. - LHU head coach Doug Moore to address guests

4:40 p.m. - Larry Jones to introduce Karl Herrmann

4:50 p.m. – Karl Herrmann to speak to guests on LHU men’s soccer

5:00 p.m. – Troy Miller, Director of Athletic Development to address crowd

5:05 p.m. Picnic
