LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (8-3, 7-2 PSAC) dominated visiting Kutztown University (1-10, 0-9 PSAC) for 90 minutes on their way to a 2-0 win at home on a very special day at McCollum field.
2007 marks the 30th anniversary of the Bald Eagles 1977 NCAA Division III National Championship; the first in the programs rich history and today LHU invited back the members of that team as well as many other proud Haven men’s soccer alumni.
The current edition of the Bald Eagles certainly didn’t disappoint as they picked up a win over Kutztown for the second time this season.
Senior midfielder Adam Wolf (Telford, Pa./Souderton) scored the first goal of the match for the Haven, finishing off a loose ball from outside the 18 in just the 8th minute of play.
Ashley Rosindale (Bradford, England/Beckfoot School) broke in the right side of the goal and slotted a ball across the middle to the foot of Tommy Ehrlich (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), but he was unable to finish his shot that eventually rebounded back to an open Wolf. Wolf left no doubt, tucking the ball home in the left side of the goal.
In the 24th minute of play rookie Martin Pletz (Pittsburgh/Carlyton) put LHU up 2-0 after he finished home a ball that Paul Huckett (Grimsby, England/Grimsby College) sent in to him.
Pletz went up for the header and looked as if he was fouled, but he remained on his feet and spun around where he was able to slot the ball home for LHU’s second goal of the match.
Lock Haven continued to dominate the remainder of the game, but the Bald Eagles were unable to score again.
Senior goalkeeper Chad Feerrar (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) was called upon to make just one save and it was a solid one as a Kutztown player found himself one-one-one with Feerrar who turned the shot away on his way to the shutout.
Following the game the men’s soccer alumni and members of the ’77 championship team were honored.
The Bald Eagles are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 5 p.m. when they travel to Shippensburg University for PSAC action.
