Shala Simms in action earlier this season

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s cross country teams where in action yesterday at the 34th edition of the Brooks Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University and today at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational, hosted by Penn State University.

Yesterday at Lehigh, the men’s team took 35th in the College Brown race. Leading the way for the Bald Eagles was rookie Tim Getz (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) who finished 127th after covering the 8K course in 26:06.

Junior Shala Simms (Upper Darby, P.a/Upper Darby) was the Lady Eagles top runner as she turned in an impressive fourth-place showing in the Women’s White race at Leigh. Simms ran the 6K course in 22:56.

At PSU today junior April Salinas (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) was the top finisher for LHU women as she picked up a 86th place finish running the 6K course in 26:25.

The men’s team, which is ranked 16th nationally in Division II finished fourth overall at today’s Spike Shoe Invite (8K).

Leading the way for the Bald Eagles was seniors Cory Spidell (Home, Pa./Marion Center) and Shawn Moore (Elverson, Pa./Twin Valley).

Spidell was the Haven’s top runner, finishing 17th overall with a time of 27:53 with Moore right behind him in 19th with a time of 27:56.

Freshman Josh Trego (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) ran a solid race finishing 25th overall with a time of 28:40.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 9 a.m. at Dickinson University.
