Katiera Carey is our next feature athlete in our ongoing series focusing on LHU athletes.
After not running last season Katiera is back with the squad this season. During her 2005 campaign Carey had a strong finish at the Maroon and Gold Invitational finishing 33rd overall. During her high school days Carey was a four-year letter winner in Cross Country and Track while also being a three-year winner in Soccer. She was named the captain of the Montoursville women’s squad during her senior season for both Track and Cross Country. She also ran on the Montoursville 4x4 unit that owns the school record. Carey, a Montoursville native, is the daughter of Randy and Tammy Carey and is a junior Health and Physical Education Major.
1. What is the one thing in your life you cannot live with out?
- Water.
2. If you were stranded on an island and could only eat one meal, listen to one song, and be with one person; what would you eat, what would you listen to and who would you bring?
- I would eat Granola Bars and I’m not real sure about the rest.
3. As a cross country runner, is there any one runner you modeled yourself after?
- I’ve never really modeled my running after anyone else.
4. What’s your favorite thing about running at Lock Haven?
- The team aspect of things.
5. Where’s the toughest place you’ve ran?
- Slippery Rock is by far the toughest place I’ve ran.
6. What’s your favorite movie and why?
- The Guardian is my favorite movie because it deals with mind over body, and that’s a lot of what cross country entails.
7. What’s your major and why are you interested in it?
- Health and Physical Education, because I love sports and also enjoy working with kids.
8. What made you choose Lock Haven over the other schools that were recruiting you?
- The Haven is a small school and it has a great P.E. program.
9. Who were your sports idols as a kid?
- I had two. First was Mia Hamm, she was so talented and I always just wished I could play like her, plus she won a women’s World Cup. Second is Marion Jones. She’s an extremely fast runner who owns a lot of world records.
