Bald Eagles Soar Past Millersville 4-0

Paul Huckett looks to play a ball in toward goal in today's match, he had an assist on the game's first goal

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (10-5, 9-5 PSAC) dominated visiting Millersville University (9-6-1, 8-5-1 PSAC) to on McCollum Field on their way to a 4-0 win, giving the Bald Eagles a valuable three points, which puts them back in second overall in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) standings.

The win came in large part thanks to junior Leadopoe Geain (Cheltenham, Pa./Cheltenham) and senior Ashley Rosindale (Bradord, England/Beckfoot School) as both players netted two goals apiece in the win.

Both Geain’s goals came off the foot of rookie Doug Moran (Butler, Pa./Butler) who put his speed on display in the second half today.

LHU took control of the match early, dominating the flow and games tempo throughout. The Bald Eagles domination created several good scoring changes early as the Haven looked like a determined squad from the opening whistle in today’s match, hustling for a full 90 minutes.

In the 18th minute the Haven went up 1-0 off Rosindale’s first strike of the match. Junior forward Paul Huckett (Grimsby, England/Grimsby College) showed some strong pace of his own streaking down the right side of the field where he was able to senf a picture perfect cross to the head of Rosindale, who was left alone to tuck the ball home.

With the Bald Eagles leading 1-0, the first 45 minutes of action would come to a close and LHU without a doubt dominating a physical contest.

Geain scored the first of his two goals in the 63rd minute of play. Sophomore Colin Callaghan (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) played a fantastic ball down the right flank from midfield to a streaking Moran, who broke in past the defense. Moran was able to slot the ball perfectly across to a goal-crashing Geain, who left no doubt and put LHU up 2-0.

Just over ten minutes later in was déjà vu for Bald Eagle fans as an all most exact same play occurred to put Haven well in control of the match. This time it was Rosindale playing the speedy Moran in behind the defense with a good through ball. Moran ran onto it and again slotted in across the middle to an open Geain, who netted his second goal of the game.

Rosindale was at it again less than two minutes later as he put on a sensational one-man show cutting in and out of the MU defense before ripping the ball far post from inside the 18. The goal marked Rosindale’ second of the game and put LHU in the drivers seat as they needed the three-points today.

With the win LHU moves ahead of Millersville, who was sitting in second behind conference-leading East Stroudsburg University who had 36 points at the day’s start.

Senior goalie Chad Feerrar (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) got the start in net and went 77 plus minutes, but was only forced to make one stop. Fellow classmate Matt Deming (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) split time between the posts today with Feerrar as the two recorded the combined shutout.

Defensively the Bald Eagles got support from a large cast of players as they dominated play in every position on the field today.

The Bald Eagles are back in action in another important conference game on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. when they travel to local rival Bloomsburg University.
