Lady Eagles Dive into New Season, Terray Makes LHU Debut Memorable One

The Lady Eagles took third at the Clarion Fall Classic today

CLARION, Pa. – The Lock Haven University swim team dove into their new season today while competing at the Clarion University Fall Classic with several Lady Eagles turning in solid performances.

Lock Haven finished third overall at the meet.

Freshman Amanda Terray (Coaldale, Pa./Panther Valley) had a very strong outing in her Haven debut.

She took second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:14.52. Her time of 2:14.52 is the second fastest time ever by a Lady Eagle. Terray also recorded LHU’s second fastest 100 backstroke of all-time as the lead leg in the 400 medley relay.

She led of the relay with a time of 1:00.19 for the 100 backstroke. Not only is her time one of the Haven’s all-time bests, but it is also an NCAA “B” cut time.

“An NCAA “B” cut time in October is quite a good thing to achieve,” said an excited head coach Andy Waeger.

Terray wasn’t done there as she took second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.41. She also picked up a sixth place finish in the 50 freestyle (25.79).

Junior Stephanie Kudrick (Coudersport, Pa./Coudersport) took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.14) while also adding a fifth place showing in the 200 IM with a time of 2:23.17.

Senior Kelly Grieneisen (Pittsburgh/Plum) placed second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:36.31.

In the 400 freestyle relay LHU’s A-team took third with Terray, Grieneisen, Kudrick and Brittany Williams (North East, Pa./North East) all swimming for the Haven.

Ashley Lightcap (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) teamed up with Terray, Kudrick and Grieneisen to take second in the 200 medley relay.

LHU’s B-relay squad took sixth in the 400 medley relay. Competing was Ashley Gardner (Smyrna, Del./Dover), Amanda Palmer (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East), Caroline Sweeney (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) and Williams.

“I was really quite pleased with how this weekend went. This is always a long two days of racing with most of our women competing in eight events. I was quite impressed with how our first year college swimmers stepped up and embraced their races,” Waeger said. “Nobody backed down from any race and everyone gave 100 percent for each time and that is all I can ask for.”

The Lady Eagles are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. at East Stroudsburg University.
