SOMERS, Wis. – Freshman Amanda Terray (Coaldale, Pa./Panther Valley) of the Lock Haven University swim team was recently named Division II National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com for her recent efforts in the pool.
At the Indiana (Pa.) University Crimson Hawk Invitational Terray made history as she turned an outstanding individual effort.
Terray dominated throughout the three-day event, but the main highlight came on Friday (Nov. 16) when she became the first Lady Eagle swimmer in the school’s history to qualify for the national championships.
In the prelims of the 100 backstroke Terry was clocked in 58.14, which hit the NCAA “A” cut time qualifying her for the NCAA championships in March in Columbia, Missouri.
Her time of 58.14 also smashed her own school record set earlier this season.
Terray wasn’t done there as she came back in 100 backstroke finals and bettered her mark on her way to a first place finish.
Her time of 57.62 smashed her own school record set earlier in the day during the prelims, while also establishing an IUP Natatorium record.
At that time, her marked had her ranked fourth in the nation in all of Division II in the event.
The rookie sensation wasn’t done there as she came back on Saturday (Nov. 17) and turned in a strong performance in the 200 backstroke finishing second overall with a time of 2:08.66 marking a LHU school record.
The time was also good enough for a NCAA “B” cut time.
Terray and rest of the Lady Eagles hit the pool again this Saturday, Dec. 1 when they host IUP at 1 p.m. in Zimmerli pool.
