LHU Basketball - Men

Bald Eagles fall on the road at Shepherd University 86-63

Coach Wilson's Bald Eagles fell to 0-4 with an 86-63 defeat at the hands of Shepherd University. LHU was led by junior Billy Arre's 16 point effort.

Shepherdstown, W.Va. – The Lock Haven University Bald Eagles (0-4, 0-0 PSAC West) traveled to the Mountain State of West Virginia and came home with an 86-63 loss at the hands of the Shepherd University Rams (3-1).

It’s the fourth straight out of conference loss for LHU and the second time this season they’ve taken on an out of state foe and came home in defeat.

An 18-2 run across the games first six plus minutes would spell disaster for The Haven as they would never once see the lead in the game.

Junior Billy Arre’s (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) layup at the 15:33 mark to go in the first half would spark a 13 point burst by the Bald Eagles as they clawed back in the game.

With eight and a half minutes left LHU was three points away from knotting the game up as they were trailing 18-15 but that’s as close as they would get.

From that point forward Shepherd would never look back as they took a 38-28 lead into the locker room.

The ten point halftime difference would be the closest Lock Haven would get as Shepherd would outscore the Bald Eagles 48-35 across the final 20 minutes of play to seal the victory.

Twenty Shepherd turnovers would account for a third of LHU’s points on the evening but wouldn’t be enough to overcome the powerful inside attack by the Rams.

Points in the paint were the story of the game as Shepherd outscored the big men from LHU by a 44-24 margin, which was in effect the difference in the game.

Lock Haven was led on the evening by Arre’s season high 16 point effort. Arre also got help from fellow guards Kelvin McLean (Newport News, Va./Heritage) and Justin Wilson (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain). McLean scored 11 points in his brief 20 minute stint in the contest while Wilson would chip in a dozen.

On the glass LHU was out rebounded 55-28 on the night and was led by Junior big-man A.J. Zimmer (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) would pulled down seven boards.

The charity stripe also has been a thorn in LHU’s side so far and their woes from the line continued as they shot a moderate 60% from the stripe and opposed to Shepherd’s 85% mark.

The Bald Eagles are next back in action as they play part in an afternoon doubleheader against East Stroudsburg. Tip off at Thomas Fieldhouse on Saturday, December 1 is slated for 3 p.m as the Bald Eagles look to avenge last season’s defeat at the hands of the Warriors in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover affair.
