Junior Billy Arre scored a season high and game high 25 points in LHU's 69-59 loss to East Stroudsburg

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – In what was a hard fought defensive struggle, the Lock Haven University Bald Eagles (0-5, 0-0 PSAC West) fell in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover affair to the East Stroudsburg University Warriors (1-2, 0-0 PSAC East) by a 69-59 score.
LHU was all over East Stroudsburg in the early goings of the game as ice cold shooting and turnover woes by ESU helped Lock Haven gain an 8-2 lead in the first four minutes of the contest.
The visiting Warriors would take the lead from Lock Haven with seven and a half to play in the first frame but a quick response by junior Billy Arre (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) would regain the lead for The Haven.
Each team would go back and forth but a minute later ESU would regain the lead for good as an Andy Heimbach jumper gave the Warriors a 19-18 lead.
East Stroudsburg would build their lead with a 17-5 run to end the half and take a 36-23 lead into the intermission.
Lock Haven was led by a strong first half performance by Arre who chipped in 14 of the teams 23 points in the opening period.
Both teams would go back and forth in the second half but ESU would extend their lead to a 24 point differential with six and change to play, but the Bald Eagles weren’t done yet.
As the clock began to wind down Lock Haven chose to extend the game and challenge East Stroudsburg at the line and it seemed to work as LHU was slowly chipping away at the Warrior lead.
The Bald Eagles would go on a 19-5 run to finish the game, and outscore the Warriors 36-33 across the final 20 minutes, but it wouldn’t be enough as ESU would leave Thomas Fieldhouse with a hard fought 69-59 win over LHU.
Lock Haven was led on the afternoon by Arre who had a season high and game high 25 point effort. Justin Wilson (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) also chipped in a dozen with eight of those points coming in the second half.
LHU out rebounded East Stroudsburg by a 38-37 margin and was led by A.J. Zimmer’s (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) game high nine boards. Tyrone Palmer (Darby, Pa./Parkway) and Denny Mortimer (Silver Spring, Md./Mansfield University) also helped on the glass as they hauled in six rebounds a piece, with all of Mortimer’s coming in the second half.
Turnovers were the thorn in LHU’s side as they turned the ball over 25 times across the game which led to 28 of ESU’s 69 points.
The Bald Eagles are next back in action as they play part in an afternoon doubleheader against Kutztown. Tip off at Thomas Fieldhouse on Sunday, December 2 is slated for 3 p.m.
