Loretto, Pa. – The Lock Haven University Bald Eagles (0-7, 0-0 PSAC West) traveled through rough winter weather to take on the Saint Francis University Red Flash (3-6) and came home with a 77-64 defeat.
LHU started off well as they tallied off the games first four points to take the early lead.
The Bald Eagles would hold the lead until the 13:30 mark of the first half when a Cale Nelson trey would find the bottom of the net and give the Red Flash the 12-9 lead.
While St. Francis took the lead, Lock Haven played a scrappy game and wouldn’t go away as they kept the game close through the remainder of the first stanza, but it would be the Red Flash taking a 38-31 lead into the intermission.
A 9-2 run by the Bald Eagles would start the second half and get them to within two points as they trailed only by a 40-38 margin.
But that is as close as they would get as Saint Francis would take the game over from there and cruise to a 77-64 victory.
LHU saw great improvement in their second game against a Division I team this season, as the first time around saw them falling at Youngstown State by a 95-55 score.
Lock Haven was led on the evening by junior Billy Arre’s (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) game high 18 points, which included two buckets from beyond the arc.
Arre also got help from senior Denny Mortimer (Silver Spring, Md./Mansfield University) who chipped in 17 on the evening and Justin Wilson (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and Tyrone Palmer’s (Darby, Pa./Parkway) seven points a piece.
Senior Jeff Eveillard (New Rochelle, N.Y./Broome Community College) also helped the Bald Eagle cause as he pulled down eight rebounds.
LHU was hot from the field as well as they shot a strong 53.3% from the field.
The Bald Eagles are next back in action as they play part in a men’s and women’s doubleheader at Mansfield on December 18, 2007. Tip-off for the women’s game is slated for 5:30 p.m. and the men’s game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m.
