LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Millersville University (9-2, 0-0 PSAC East) made it two in a row in Lock Haven as they defeated the Lock Haven University Bald Eagles (0-12, 0-0 PSAC West) by a 72-51 score at Thomas Fieldhouse to sweep the afternoon doubleheader.
LHU fell behind early as after two minutes they found themselves trailing the Marauders by a 7-2 score.
But, an 8-3 run by LHU over the game’s next four minutes would get The Haven right back into the contest as they knotted it up at ten a piece.
Both teams would then go back and forth for the games next four points as with 12:35 to go in the opening half, the two teams were knotted up at a dozen a piece.
From that moment until halftime the Bald Eagles would go ice cold from the field as they would go 1-14 over the next 12 and a half minutes, to find themselves trailing 31-19 at the intermission.
Of the seven points scored during the LHU dead shooting period, five of them came from the line as a Billy Arre (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) jumper was the only non charity stripe shot to fall.
LHU was led in the first half by Tyrone Palmer’s (Darby, Pa./Parkway) six points.
Three minutes into the final frame, Millersville had their largest lead of the afternoon as they had a 38-19 advantage over LHU, but the Bald Eagles weren’t going to go away without a fight.
LHU would put together a 17-9 run over the course of the next eight minutes to find themselves within 11 points with over nine minutes to play.
11 points is as close as Lock Haven would get though as the Marauders would eventually come away with a 72-51 victory over The Haven.
After being held to a meager five points in the games first 20 minutes, Billy Arre came alive in the second half to lead all scorers as he knocked 23 points on the evening.
Junior Kelvin McLean (Newport News, Va./Heritage) also scored five points for LHU as he played 38 minutes and recorded his first career start.
Arre led the way on the glass as well with seven boards.
LHU shot 36 percent from the field and 77 percent from the line.
Millersville had three players in double figures as they were led by a 14 point effort from Reggie Bates. Cory Bray and Brannon Burnett also were in double digits as they scored 12 and 11 points respectively.
