LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Lock Haven University’s men’s basketball team (0-13, 0-0 PSAC West) dropped their second game is as many days as they fell to visiting West Chester University (8-4, 0-0 PSAC East) in the second part of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover doubleheader.
West Chester would knock down the games first points and would never allow LHU to gain the lead.
The Haven kept the game close across the first four minutes as they trailed the Rams by only three at a 10-7 score with 16 and change to play in the opening frame.
With 15:53 to go in the first half West Chester would begin what would eventually turn into a 6-0 run with a Ralph Hegamin jumper that would help build the Ram lead.
But the Bald Eagles wouldn’t go away as they sparked their own 8-2 run to bring the West Chester lead down to a two point margin at 18-16 with nine and change to play in the first stanza.
West Chester would then go on an 18-9 run to close out the first half as they held a 36-25 lead at the intermission.
Billy Arre (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) would lead all scorers in the first half as he scored a dozen points in the games first 20 minutes.
Lock Haven would come out and get on top of West Chester quickly in the second half as they scored the first five points of the frame to chip the Ram lead down to six.
Following LHU’s five point burst, West Chester coach Dick Delaney would call a timeout to calm down his troops and also attempt to halt the LHU offense which was quickly heating up.
Delaney’s tactic worked well as following the time out his team would go on a 13-3 run to build their lead up to a sizeable 16 point advantage.
Lock Haven would never again get the lead back to single digits as West Chester would leave Thomas Fieldhouse with a 69-54 victory over the Bald Eagles.
Arre would lead all scorers as he continues to light up opponent defenses, this time to tune of 26 points. Arre got help from junior Kelvin McLean (Newport News, Va./Heritage) who scored seven points before fouling out in the latter goings of the game.
On the glass LHU was led by Denny Mortimer (Silver Spring, Md./Mansfield University) who pulled down seven boards despite being in foul trouble for the majority of the contest.
Lock Haven will have to wait six more days for another opportunity to arise to pick up their first win as on January 12, 2008 they travel to Cheyney University for their final cross conference game of the season. Tip off from suburban Philadelphia is slated for 3 p.m.
