Billy Arre scored 28 points for the third night in a row but LHU couldn't overcome four Golden Eagles in double figures as they fell to Clarion 69-60.

CLARION, Pa. – After leading at the half 27-26, Lock Haven University’s men’s basketball team (1-16, 1-2 PSAC West) was outscored 43-33 in the second half as they fell to host Clarion University (9-8, 1-2 PSAC West) 69-60 at Tippin Gymnasium.
With 8:42 to play LHU and Clarion found themselves in a deadheat 47-47, but a triple from Clarion’s Ron Hollis would give Clarion the advantage for good at 50-47.
Local product Eli Hanna’s (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) layup would get The Haven to within one, but Damon Gross would answer with a layup of his own to put the Bald Eagles back down by three.
A 7-2 run by the Golden Eagles would put LHU down by eight with five a half to play, but LHU wouldn’t lay down for Clarion.
Pittsburgh native Billy Arre (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) took over for the next three and half minutes as he scored all nine of LHU’s points during the period of time as his back-to-back-to-back trey’s would chip the Golden Eagle lead down to three.
But that’s as close as The Haven would get as Clarion scored the game’s final six points to send LHU home in defeat by a 69-60 score.
Arre led the way the same way he has for the last three games as he scored a game high 28 points. 18 of Arre’s 28 came from beyond the arc as he was 6-15 on the evening from long distance.
Jeff Eveillard (New Rochelle, N.Y./Broome Community College) and Denny Mortimer (Silver Spring, Md./Mansfield University) led the way for LHU on the glass as they each pulled down five boards a piece.
Clarion had four players in double figures on the evening as they were led by Josh Yanke’s 17 point, 10 rebound double-double effort.
The Bald Eagles are next back in action as they play part in another PSAC West division men’s/women’s doubleheader at home against California University of PA on Saturday, January 26 2008. Tip off at Thomas Fieldhouse is slated for 3 p.m.
