LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University women’s soccer team kicked off 2008 in memorable fashion after traveling to the Caribbean island of Barbados.

The Lady Eagles went 3-0 on their tour, outscoring their opponents 8-1.

The Haven didn’t just make memories on the field as they were treated to a truly amazing culture in the one of the most beautiful places on the earth.

Below you’ll find a short account of the three matches LHU played as well as journals written by the two the players and a photo gallery filled with amazing shots of their trip.

Game #1:

LHU 2 – Pro Shottas FC 1

The Lady Eagles got goals from seniors Bekah Stonecypher (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) and Colleen Kafka (Candor, N.Y./Candor).

Stonecypher’s scored the first goal of the game off a beautiful header. Her header came off a Lynnette Reitz (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) corner kick, putting LHU up 1-0.

After the Pro Shottas had tied it up, Kaftak converted a penalty kick in the 75th minute, putting the Lady Eagles back on top leading 2-1.

Lock Haven would not trail again, as they didn’t give up another goal in their remaining games in Barbados.

Goalies Emily Wagner (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) and Katie Smithmyer (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) split halves with both making two saves.

Game #2

LHU 2 – Barbados U-20 National Team 0

The Lady Eagles picked up their second win while in Barbados downing the U-20 national team 2-0.

Kafka picked up her second goal of the tour while fellow senior Kyleigh Roth (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) also scored for LHU.

Game #3

LHU 4 – Genesis FC 0

Lock Haven capped off an undefeated run while in the Caribbean picking up their third victory in Barbados. They downed Genesis 4-0 and outscored their opponents 8-1 over their three-game span.

Scoring goals for LHU was Kafka, Reitz, Sarah Thomas (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and goalie Emily Wagner who saw some time up top in her final Haven appearance.
