Three Haven harriers earned Academic All-American honors.

NEW ORLEANS – Although the season ended some time ago, the honors continue to come in for the Lock Haven University men’s and women’s cross country teams as three Haven harriers have been named to the 2007 NCAA Division II U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Academic All-American team.

Shala Simms (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) picked up the honor for the Lady Eagles after a tremendous year on the course.

The junior capped off an impressive season with an eighth place showing at the NCAA Division II East Region Championships. Her eight place finish marked the first time a Lady Eagle had earned All-Region honors since 2001.

Prior to that region meet, Simms took sixth at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships meet, marking the best Lady Eagle finish since 1997.

On the men’s side senior Shawn Moore (Elverson, Pa./Twin Valley) and sophomore Jed Yeatts (Mercersburg, Pa./James Buchanan) were both honored with Academic All-American honors for the Bald Eagles.

Moore capped off his career after a strong showing at the PSAC championship meet. He led the Haven with a 15th place finish, which was good enough for All-Conference honors.

Yeatts was also All-PSAC after a 19th place showing at the conference meet, but wasn’t don’t there as he went on to lead the Bald Eagles at the region meet.

At the region championships, Yeatts earned All-East Region honors after finishing 12th overall with a time of 31:54 on the 10K course.

To qualify for the individual All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale. The student-athletes must also finish in the top 30 percent of individual participants at their respective regional cross country championships
