ITHACA, N.Y. – The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s track and field teams were in action for the final time before the conference championships and turned in several strong performances in preparation for them.
Competing at the Marc Deneault Invitational hosted by Cornell University the Bald and Lady Eagles looked ready to make some noise at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships next weekend at East Stroudsburg University.
Junior Shala Simms (Ardmore, Pa./Upper Darby) took fifth place in the 800 meter run, but did so in recording breaking fashion as her time of 2:15.90 was good enough for a LHU indoor school record.
Chelsea Morse’s (Beaver Dams, N.Y./Campbell-Savona) impressive season continued as she placed second in the high jump with a mark of 5-05.00.
The Lady Eagles also saw some strong performances in the sprint events as Ashley Hartman (Garrett, Pa./Berlin Brothersvalley) led two-three-four finish in the 200 meter dash for the Haven. Hartman took second with a time of 26.62 and was followed by Megan Wolf (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), 26.79 and Cassie Snider (Dallas, Pa./Dallas), 27.14.
Wolf and Snider weren’t finished there as they went two-three in the 400 with times of 1:00.21 and 1:01.38, respectively.
Amanda Reinmiller (Conyngham, Pa./Hazleton) added a third place finish in the long jump with a mark of 17-01.25.
The Lady Eagles also took first in the both the 4x400 and 4x800 relays.
On the men’s side the Bald Eagles were led by a first place finish in the high jump by Ivars Lurops (Riga, Latvia/Green Mountain College). He cleared 6-04.25 for the win.
Paul Martin (Pickering, Ontario/Pine Ridge Secondary) also picked up a first place finish after besting the field in the 60M hurdles with a time of 8.29 just missing his school record in the event.
For the second consecutive weekend sophomore Randy Sylvia (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) broke the school record in the weight throw. This weekend he hit a mark of 56-03.00.
Chris Edelman (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) had a strong meet taking second in the 400 meter dash (50.10) while adding a fourth place finish in the 800 (1:58.72).
Brandon Pomerantz (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) was third in the 800 with a time of 1:57.43 and Cory Spidell (Home, Pa./Marion Center) placed third in the mile with a time of 4:21.62.
Rookie Preston Faulkner (Trappe, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) was third in the 60M dash with a time of 7.13 and fellow freshman Nick Coberly (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) added a third place showing in the long jump with a mark of 21-02.00.
The Bald Eagles also took second in the 4x8 and third in the 4x4.
Both teams are back in action at next weekend’s PSAC Championships at ESU.
