Baseball drops two in the Sunshine State
 

FT MYERS, Fla. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (3-7) lost both games of a doubleheader today against Rockhurst University.

Rockhurst downed LHU 7-3 in game one and took game two 6-5 in extra innings.

Lock Haven scored their three runs on three hits and committed no errors in the game.

Rockhurst’s seven runs came off 11 hits.

Senior Pat Young (Allensville, Pa./Indian Valley) got the nod on the mound for the Bald Eagles and worked the first four innings of action, giving up seven runs on four hits.

Rookie Brain Kochik (Snow Shoe, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) pitched the last three innings and gave up three runs on four hits.

Game two saw the Bald Eagles bats light up a bit, but they lost 6-5, as Rockhurst posted the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Andrew Simonik (Jermyn, Pa./Lakeland) got the start and almost went the complete game pitching the first seven innings of action.

Tyler Rumsey (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield) came in for the eighth and took the loss for the Bald Eagles after giving up the game-winning run.

Five different Bald Eagles went 2-for-4 at the plate including Mark Strouse (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley), Matt Palko (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area), Scott Gaston (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergen Catholic), Nick Harner (Dauphin, Pa./Chowan College) and Tim Bremen (Effort, Pa./Sussex County C.C.).

The Bald Eagles are back in action on Sunday, March 9 at the 16th annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic when they take on Ashland University at 4 p.m.
