FT MYERS, Fla. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (4-8) got the bats going today as the Bald Eagles soared past the University of Charleston 22-3.
Lock Haven had been hitting the ball well that last few games despite dropping five in a row, but the Haven finally put it all together today at the plate helping LHU crush Charleston in the Sunshine state.
The win snapped a five game loosing skid for the Bald Eagles as they used 23 hits to produce their 22 runs.
Charleston was limited to only five hits on the day.
LHU wasted little time in jumping on Charleston as they produced eight runs in the first inning of their nine-inning contest.
Rookie pitcher Tyler Rumsey (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield) got on the win on the mound. He went seven innings striking out two and gave up no walks as he consistently threw strikes all game.
Sophomore Mark Strouse (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) led the way with the pine as he went a stellar 5-for-6 at the plate. He hit one homerun and picked up four RBI.
Junior Zach Schuler (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Spring Grove) had another fine outing at the plate turning in a 3-for-6 performance that produce three RBI.
Junior Matt Palko (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) was solid as well going 4-for-6 with a triple and one RBI.
Juniors Teddy Stake (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) and Nick Harner (Dauphin, Pa./Chowan College) both had multiple hit games as they went 2-for-4 and 3-for-5, respectively.
Lock Haven is back in action on Wednesday, March 12 at 10 a.m. when they take on this same Charleston team.
