Terray does it again, All-American in 200 backstroke after third place finish

Terray wrapped up a sensational season with her second All-American honor is as many days.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – For the second time in as many days freshman Amanda Terray (Coaldale, Pa./Panther Valley) of the Lock Haven University swim team earned All-American status as the talented Lady Eagle continued to make LHU swimming history at the 2008 NCAA Division II Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving National Championships

Today it was the 200 backstroke, an event she has dominated throughout the season.

She finished third overall with a time of 2:01.93 marking another lifetime best and school record.

LHU head coach Andy Waeger couldn’t have been happier.

He noted that he couldn’t really say too much about her race technically because he was so busy jumping up and down, but did say she improved in everything they talked about after the morning’s prelims.

Waeger said, she went out lighting fast and really pushed that third 50, which was the most important before bringing it home.

Terray was the only freshman in championship heat.

Heading into the finals she was sitting in fourth after swimming a lifetime best of 2:03.81 in the prelims.

At the NCAA championships Terray swam five races and recorded lifetime bests in all five, which is a remarkable feat in itself.

This caps off a remarkable season for Terray.

She is the first woman in Lock Haven history to win an individual Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) title, qualify for the NCAA championships and earn All-American status.
