SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Senior distance runner Ryan Blood (Summerdale, Pa./East Pennsboro) qualified for the national meet as he turned in a time of 29:45 in the 10K race at the Stanford Invitational, while the rest of Lock Haven’s track team was in action at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Challenge at Slippery Rock.
Blood recently competed in the USA Championships in the 8K at Central Park and placed 22nd, but his 18th place finish in his section of the 10K at Stanford was enough to qualify him for the national meet in May.
The rest of the Track and Field team saw action at the PSAC West Challenge as the women’s squad took second overall and the men’s team came home with a fourth place finish.
Leading the way for the women was reigning PSAC West Field Athlete of the Week Chelsea Morse (Beaver Dams, N.Y./Campbell-Savona) as she won both the high jump and triple jump.
The field events led the day for the women’s side of things as Jen Andrews (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) was victorious in the shot put, Malika Miller (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) was the Triple Jump champion and JaKia Gumby (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) won the Discus throw. Gumby and Andrews also were 2-3 in the Hammer Throw.
On the men’s side it was Randy Sylvia (Johnstown, Pa./Richland), Nick Coberly (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and Brandon Pomerantz’s (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) runner up finishes which led the way for LHU as they placed fourth overall.
Sylvia was the runner up in the Hammer Throw while Coberly took home the silver in the Long Jump and Pomerantz was the second place finisher in the 1500 meter run.
