LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University baseball team (13-25, 3-9 PSAC West) split a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division doubleheader with Slippery Rock University (18-14, 7-5 PSAC West) today at home on Foundation Field.
The Bald Eagles rode a tremendous pitching effort from senior Pat Young (Allensville, Pa./Indian Valley) in game one and downed SRU 4-1.
Lock Haven dropped game two to Slippery Rock, who was ranked No. 6 in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II North Atlantic Region poll 10-5.
Young was the story in game one as he pitched a gem rarely falling behind in the count and battling back well when he did.
He went the distance and gave up only five hits in the seven innings of work. Young struck out eight SRU batters on the day.
Offensively, LHU’s four runs came off eight hits with eight different Bald Eagles recording those hits.
Tim Bremen (Effort, Pa./Sussex County C.C.) got the bats going for LHU as he doubled in the bottom of the third, driving in two runs.
In game two, the Haven’s five runs came off six hits.
Leftfielder Evan Petro (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) was 2-for-3 at the plate and Mark Strouse (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) recorded two RBIs.
The Bald Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, April 15 at 1 p.m. when they travel to Millersville University.
