Baseball splits with Clarion in PSAC West action

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University baseball team (14-28, 4-10 PSAC West) split a home doubleheader with Clarion University (9-19, 2-11 PSAC) in conference action.

LHU dropped game one 7-6 as they were edged by the Golden Eagles despite another strong effort by senior pitcher Pat Young (Allensville, Pa./Indian Valley).

The Bald Eagles bounced back in a big way in game two as the offense came alive for the Haven. LHU got 12 runs off 14 hits and downed CU 12-5.

In game one Mark Strouse (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) and Nick Harner (Dauphin, Pa./Chowan College) both went 2-for-4 at the plate in game one. Strouse scored two runs and Tim Bremen (Effort, Pa./Sussex County C.C.) added two RBI.

Despite the loss Young put fourth a solid effort in 5-1/3 innings of work. He struck out five and walked only three.

In game two sophomore pitcher Josh Rote (McElhattan, Pa./Central Mountain) went the distance striking out three. He gave up only two walks, seven hits and five runs. Four of the five runs were unearned.

The Bald Eagles offense really poured it on in the game two and was led by a five-run inning in the bottom of the third, which broke open the contest.

LHU is back in action tomorrow when they travel to Clarion for another Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) doubleheader. First pitch game one is slated for 1 p.m.
