LEWISBURG, Pa. – Both the Lock Haven University men’s and women’s track and field teams were in action yesterday (April 19) at Bucknell University, as both teams took part in the Bucknell Team Challenge.
LHU was the only non NCAA Division I team competing at the meet and both teams took sixth place, taking on the likes of Penn State, Bucknell, St. Francis (Pa.), University of Maryland Baltimore County, Binghamton and Duquesne.
Senior Ryan Blood (Summerdale, Pa./East Pennsboro) has been on a tear since returning to the track and his string of strong racing continued yesterday as he shattered another LHU school record.
This time in was the 3000 meter run record that Blood claimed after a first place finish in 8:25.31.
The 3K proved to be a strong event for the Haven men as freshmen Tim Getz (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) scored a point for Lock Haven after a sixth place finish with a time of 8:48.33. Teammate Jed Yeatts (Mercersburg, Pa./James Buchanan) wasn’t far off that pace and finished just out of the scoring in seventh place with a time of 8:48.53.
Paul Martin (Pickering, Ontario/Pine Ridge Secondary) was third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 54.12 and Nick Hilton (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) took fourth in the steeplechase (9:28.7).
Chris Edleman (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) finished sixth at 400 meters (49.13) and Justin Lockley (Morton, Pa./Springfield) was fifth in the 100 meter dash (11.16).
On the women’s side the story was once again Chelsea Morse (Beaver Dams, N.Y./Campbell-Savona), who continued her winning ways with another strong showing the high jump.
She bested the field with a jump of 5-7, picking up the win and a valuable ten points for the Lady Eagles.
Senior Jen Andrews (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) finished just out of the scoring after taking seventh in the shot up with a heave of 40-11.75.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, April 26 when Lock Haven hosts the LHU Qualifier at Hubert Jack Stadium. A select number of Bald and Lady Eagles will take part in the prestigious Penn Relays (Thursday, April 24 – Saturday, April 26) at the University of Penn’s Franklin Field.
