Senior Ryan Blood won the 5K and 10K at the PSAC Championships.

INDIANA, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s track and field teams wrapped up competition today at the 2008 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Indiana (Pa.) University.

Both the Bald and Lady Eagles took second overall as the Haven brought home six individual titles.

Leading the way on the men’s side was distance standout Ryan Blood (Summerdale, Pa./East Pennsboro), who completed on of his goals this season as the senior completed the 5K/10K double.

Blood won the 10,000 meter run yesterday with a time of 30:27.78.

Today he broke the PSAC Outdoor Championship meet record on the way to first place in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:19.80. The time is also a NCAA Division II Provisional qualifying mark.

Paul Martin (Pickering, Ontario/Pine Ridge Secondary) also brought home a championship for the Bald Eagles as he turned a tremendous showing at the conference meet.

Martin won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 51.42, which automatically qualifies for the NCAA championships.

Martin added a third place finish in the 110 hurdles (14.58 P) and finished fourth in the high jump (6-06).

Teammate Ivars Lurops (Riga, Latvia/Green Mountain College) was third in the high jump with a mark of 6-08.

Freshman Nick Hilton (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) was second in the steeplechase with a time of 9:31 and Brandon Pomerantz (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) took third at 1500 meters with a time of 3:54.78.

The Bald Eagles 4x400 meter relay team took second with a NCAA provisional mark.

The Lady Eagles were led by a trio of individual champions as Jen Andrews (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg), Malika Miller (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) and Cassie Snider (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) all won titles for LHU.

Andrews took home the title in the shot put with a mark of 44-00.50, Miller took top honors in the triple jump with a jump of 37-09.50 and Snider won the long jump with a mark of 17-11.75.

Chelsea Morse (Beaver Dams, N.Y./Campbell-Savona) placed third in the high jump (5-05) and second in the long jump (17-08.75) scoring valuable point for the Haven women.

Jakia Gumby (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) had a strong showing taking third in the shot with a throw of 41-06.50 and second in the discus with a mark of 131-02.

Alaina Leonard (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) was second in the hammer with a throw of 159-00.

Shala Simms (Ardmore, Pa./Upper Darby) was fourth in the 800 meter run with a NCAA provisional mark of 2:14.37.
