LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University department of athletics recently held its 29th annual LHU Women’s Athletics Dinner to honor the Lady Eagles on all their accomplishments, both on and off the field and in the classroom.
On hand to recognize the Haven women’s many accomplishments were Dr. Keith T. Miller, President of Lock Haven University, Dr. Linda Koch, Vice President for Student Affairs and Sharon E. Taylor, Director of Athletics among other distinguished guests.
This year’s key note speaker was Diane E. Schumacher, Director of Athletics at Howard Community College.
Schumacher is a member of the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Softball Hall of Fame among many other impressive accomplishments.
Coaches and athletes from the all the Haven’s women’s athletics programs were on hand to take part in the special event.
This years academic awards went to Lauren Kelshaw (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) and Stephanie Kudrick (Coudersport, Pa./Coudersport).
Kelshaw took home the award for the junior class and Kudrick won the award for the senior class.
The evening wrapped up with the presentation of the Charlotte E. Smith Award, which is awarded to the LHU Outstanding Senior Women’s Athlete.
This year’s recipient was Blair Wynne (Arima, Trinidad & Tobago/Sangre Grande) of the LHU field hockey team.
Wynne, a 2007 All-American was dominant all season long in leading the Lady Eagles to the NCAA post-season. She was the 2007 Northeast (NEC) Player of the Year and NEC Offensive Player of the Year awards and earned All-American honors after also being named NEC tournament MVP in leading the Lady Eagles to their second consecutive tournament title. Wynne led the team in every major offensive category while pacing the Lady Eagles explosive offensive attack on the year.
