LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – In between winning wrestling matches and trips to nationals, the Lock Haven University wrestling team also excels in the classroom as they were named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division I all-Academic Team for their outstanding work in the classroom.
This season marks the fifth year in a row that LHU was named to the list as they hold down 20th place on this season’s charts.
Senior Matt Fittery (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) earned all-American honors as he carried a 3.90 GPA in Health and Physical Education and was also a national qualifier.
Two other Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) wrestlers were named to the list while only one fellow Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) grappler made the list.
The Haven was the only team in both the PSAC and the EWL to be named to the all-Academic list as the team as a whole carried a 2.949 GPA.
Both Duke and American University were at the head of the list as they had overall team GPA’s of 3.335, while Liberty, Stanford and Princeton rounded out the top five.
