LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Junior Chelsea Morse (Beaver Dams, N.Y./Campbell) of the Lock Haven University women’s track team has been named 2008 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women’s Field Athlete of the Year after a sensational season with the Lady Eagles.
This honor comes after Morse was named 2008 NCAA Division II East Region Women’s Field Athlete of the Year and earned All-American status for the third time in her remarkable three year career.
Morse’s third All-American honor came recently as she capped off a stellar year with a second place showing at the 2008 NCAA D-II Outdoor National Track and Field Championships in Walnut, Calif.
At the Championships Morse cleared a season-best 5-9.25 establishing a LHU school record.
She turned in another strong showing at the PSAC Championships placing third in the high jump and second in the long jump.
On the season Morse picked up conference field athlete of the week twice.
“Chelsea’s performance at the NCAA Championships was a great display of her tenacity” said LHU co-head track and field coach Aaron Russell. “She was frustrated with her performances in the last three meets of the season, but really brought it at the most important meet.”
“I think the PSAC coaches recognized just that,” added Russell, who couldn’t be more pleased with Morse as she has turned in huge performance after huge performance for the Haven.
