LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Despite the season ending several weeks ago, the honors continue to pile up for the Lock Haven University lacrosse team as three Lady Eagles picked up All-American honors.
The trio of junior Jessica Blickenstaff (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin), sophomore Leigh Titus (Towaco, N.J./Montville) and freshman Kathleen Zichelli (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) all earned 2008 NCAA Division II Women’sLacrosse.com All-American status.
Blickenstaff was a first teamer while Titus and Zichelli both earned a nod on the Second Team. Zichelli was also named to the All-Rookie squad.
Blickenstaff led LHU in every major offensive category including goals, assists and points with 75, 43 and 188, respectively. She also had a team-high five game winning goals.
Over her three year career she has tallied 210 goals and 317 points, which are both LHU records. Blickenstaff’s 107 assists is second best all-time in school history.
This season Blickenstaff scored at least one goal in every game including a season-high seven goals in a win over Millersville. She tallied a season-best 12 points in a win over Shippensburg.
Titus scored 72 goals on the year, which was second best on the team. She also dished out 24 assists and recorded 96 total points.
She scored at least one goal in all, but one game this season. She scored nine goals in a game against Millersville early in the season and recorded a season-best 13 points in a win over Bloomsburg University in a PSAC Semifinals.
Her 13-point outing was the best individual scoring performance of any Lady Eagle this season.
Zichelli enjoyed a stellar rookie campaign as she helped to anchor a strong defensive unit while playing tremendous two-way ball.
The freshman started all 19 games for LHU on defense and contributed offensively as well with seven goals and five assists.
She led the team in ground balls and draw controls with 66 and 50, respectively. Zichelli also caused 21 turnovers.
The Lady Eagles finished the 2008 season ranked No. 6 nationally after going 15-4 overall and 12-2 in the PSAC, advancing to the conference championship game where they fell to No. 1 West Chester University, the 2008 NCAA Division II National Champions. Along with the Haven’s three All-Americans in ’08, they are joined by four all-region selections and five all-conference athletes.
