LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Lock Haven University men’s soccer student-athlete Philip Liversedge (Darlington, England) was chosen to receive the NCAA Degree-Completion Award to continue his education, as announced recently by the NCAA.
The NCAA Division II Degree-Completion Award program provides financial assistance to deserving student-athletes for the completion of their baccalaureate degree. To receive this award, student-athletes must have completed their athletics eligibility and received athletics financial aid. Recipients must have demonstrated solid academic credentials, and also considered are financial circumstances, athletics achievement, and involvement in campus and community activities.
Liversedge completed his athletics eligibility this past fall, turning in two stellar seasons with the Bald Eagle soccer team after transferring to the Haven mid-career. At LHU, Liversedge was a steady and powerful influence in the midfield, defensive-minded but also able to contribute to the final tally when needed.
He was twice selected as an All-Region performer, and was also two-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) award winner. At the close of his senior year, Liversedge was honored as the Haven coaching staff’s Player of the Year. During his career with the Haven, LHU advanced to the PSAC tournament finals both seasons, and competed in the NCAA regional playoffs in 2007.
Liversedge’s commitment to academics and community also helped his earn the NCAA award. While at Lock Haven, Liversedge has been active as a volunteer coach in programs at the YMCA and with the local youth soccer organization. Academically, the Health and Physical Education major has been one of the men’s soccer team’s stronger student-athletes, including being named to the Dean’s List.
This year, the Division II Degree-Completion Award committee had a pool of 182 applications, awarding 86 applicants from 63 different Division II institutions. Liversedge was one of eight student-athletes from the PSAC to receive the Division II Degree-Completion Award.
