LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University lacrosse team has hired a familiar face as its new assistant coach.

LHU head lacrosse coach Kristen Selvage is proud to announce the appointment of former captain and standout Shannon Houck (LHU, ’08) to full-time assistant coaching position.

Houck spent 2008 on the sidelines with Lock Haven acting was a student-assistant coach.

Houck’s resume is impressive, as she enjoyed a sensational career for the Lady Eagles. The three-time All-Conference selection was a tenacious defender and athletic force on the field for the Haven. In 2004 and 2005 her play was phenomenal earning her All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) First Team Defense honors during both years.

In three seasons Houck scored 32 goals and added 14 assists, but was known more for her strong two-way play and on-field leadership. Houck’s playing career was cut short because of injury, but returned to the sidelines this past spring as a student-assistant coach.

Selvage couldn’t be happier about the addition of Houck, who will work primarily with the defense, while aiding in all facets of the program.

It is her defensive knowledge that will be a huge benefit to the program according to Selvage, who calls Houck meticulous while always striving for perfection from individuals. Selvage feels these qualities will make the entire core of the team better.

“It is pleasure to have her (Houck) coaching her at LHU,” Selvage said. “She brings a wealth of lacrosse knowledge to the program.”

Houck graduated from the Haven in May with a degree in Fitness Management, which will also allow her train and condition the squad.

“It’s an absolute pleasure to coach here at Lock Haven,” Houck said. “I’m looking forward to working with coach Selvage and giving back to the program.”

“It’s an honor,” added Houck.

The Gilbertsville, Pa. native, along with Selvage is a graduate of Boyertown High School.
