LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (7-4-2) downed Bloomsburg University (4-4-4) 3-1 today at Hubert Jack Stadium.
The Bald Eagles got an all-around solid outing from up and down the roster, but it was a two-goal performance from Martin Pletz (Pittsburgh/Carlyton) that paved the way for The Haven.
Lock Haven’s third goal of the match came from freshman William Pasukinis (Benton, Pa./Benton).
The first of Pletz’s two goals came early, much to the delight of LHU head coach Doug Moore and the home faithful.
Just over 10 minutes in, Pletz collected a ball that Pasukinis had slotted across from left to right after breaking away on the left flank, creating the odd man rush. Pletz found himself with only the goalie to beat and ran onto the ball, that he neatly tucked far post under a charging keeper.
The Bald Eagles dominated the majority of the match, but just could finish on some strong early chances. Lock Haven took the 1-0 lead into the break and outshot Bloom 13-9 over the 90 minute match.
Bloomsburg wasn’t looking to fold and scored the first Huskie goal in three matches. The goal, which came in the 54th minute, tied the match at 1-1.
It was again Pletz, who put LHU back in lead after he pushed one past Bloom goalie David Leiendecker in the 78th minute. The goal was set up by a fantastic through-ball off the foot of Kevin Wolfe (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster).
Wolfe played an all-around solid game and Moore made special note of his tireless work rate this afternoon.
Pasukinis drilled home his own rebound in the 86th minute to put the game away for LHU.
A strong defensive effort was led by Andrew Clemens (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) and goalkeeper Billy Trimble (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) made five saves, including several tremendous ones that kept LHU in the game.
The Bald Eagles return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. when they play host to Gannon University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
