HAMDEN, Conn. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (13-3, 3-0 NEC) remained perfect in Northeast Conference (NEC) play tonight as the Lady Eagles downed Quinnipiac University (3-9, 1-2 NEC) 3-2 in thrilling fashion.
Lock Haven trailed 2-1, but tied the game with less than four minutes to play and senior Blair Wynne (Trinidad and Tobago/Sangre Grande) scored the game-winning goal with just 14 seconds left in regulation.
With the win LHU extends its NEC unbeaten streak to 18 matches.
The Haven went up 1-0 with 2:15 left to play in the first half.
It was Amy Hordendorf (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights), who converted on a penalty stroke to put LHU up 1-0 at halftime.
Quinnipiac struck early in the second half, scoring the tying goal in the 39th minute. The hosts weren’t finished yet and scored again in the 61st minute to take the one-goal lead with under 10 minutes to play.
With 3:54 left to play in regulation Hordendorf scored her second goal of the match tying the game at 2-2. Hordendorf took a midfield pass and beat the defense, where she was able to fire one home.
With just 14 seconds left Wynne took a corner pass from Casey Hughes (Schwenksville, Pa./Souderton) and drilled it home for the thrilling game-winner.
Erin Terreson (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) stopped three shots in the win.
The Lady Eagles return on action on Sunday, Oct. 19 at noon on the road at Sacred Heart in NEC play.
