CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (9-4-3, 3-1-2 PSAC West) moved into first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division standing today following the Bald Eagles 3-1 win over California (Pa.) University (8-6-2, 3-3-1 PSAC West).

The PSAC West match was a crucial one for the Bald Eagles, who took a one-point lead over Cal in the PSAC standings following the win.

With the win LHU also extends its win streak to eight games, having gone 6-0-2 in that stretch.

LHU head coach Doug Moore was very pleased with the team’s performance today, calling it a very important win.

Moore was also pleased with the Bald Eagles ability to battle back on the road after going down 1-0 early.

California took the early lead just 9:27 into the game, but LHU got three goals from three different players to close out the first 45 minutes of play.

Paul Huckett (Grimsby, England/Grimsby College) put LHU on the board in the 14th minute. Huckett’s goal came off an assist from Chris Wagner (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East). The point for Wagner marked the first of his Haven career.

Huckett collected the Wagner pass and chipped it over a rushing goalie.

Less than five minutes before halftime Greg Shertzer (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) put LHU up 2-1 off an assist from Tommy Ehrlich (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty).

Less than a minute later Ehrlich scored one of his own to put LHU up 3-1.

It was Shertzer repaying the favor and Ehrlich took the pass, cut inside from the left and drilled the ball far post.

Lock Haven held on for the win in second dominating much the play during the second half.

LHU goalkeeper Billy Trimble (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) made two saves in 90 minutes of work, picking up the win for The Haven.

The Bald Eagles return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 22 when they play host to No. 22 Davis & Elkins.
