LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (8-8-1, 5-7-1 PSAC West) picked up a huge win today as the Lady Eagles earned a thrilling double-overtime win over visiting Edinboro University (6-10-1, 2-9-1 PSAC West) 2-1.
Kellie Wieger (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) netted the game-winner for Lock Haven in 103rd minute of play, lifting The Haven to a big win in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.
With the win LHU extends its unbeaten streak to four matches, going 3-0-1 during that stretch.
LHU went down early after Edinboro’s Ashley Jones converted on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute of play.
The Fighting Scots took the 1-0 lead into the break, but their lead wouldn’t last.
The Lady Eagles drew even in the 70th minute of play after sophomore forward Arielle Gordon (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) broke in on goal and sent a ball far post.
Regulation would end with both teams still deadlocked at 1-1, but LHU earned the win after a tremendous build up to the game-winner.
Sophomore back Alissa Gamelier (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) flew forward and slotted a perfect ball across the 18-yard box, where Wieger calmly collected the ball and sent it far post for the winner.
Hayley Zinn (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) made seven saves in the win.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m. when they play host to Slippery Rock University in PSAC West action.
