Three Lady Eagle field hockey players earn All-Region honors

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Three members of the Lock Haven University field hockey team have earned 2008 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I All-Mideast Region honors.

Senior Blair Wynne (Trinidad and Tobago/Sangre Grande) led the way with a Mideast Region First Team selection, while junior Alanna Lewis (Trinidad and Tobago/Southeast Port of Spain) and sophomore Amy Hordendorf (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights) both earned spots on the Second Team.

Wynne, the 2008 Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Year was the leader for the Lady Eagles all season long and has once again been rewarded for her efforts.

LHU recently capped off the NEC tournament three-peat, thanks in large part to this extremely talented trio.

Wynne, a midfielder was The Haven’s play-maker all year long, leading LHU to a 19-4 overall record. It was Wynne’s play making ability that also led Lock Haven to their second consecutive undefeated NEC regular season.

Wynne scored 20 goals, which was tied for the team lead and added eights assists for a team-high 48 points. She tallied six game-winning goals and recorded one hat trick this season. Wynne scored in 15 of the 21 matches she played in.

Wynne also recorded two or more points in an impressive 15 matches, including six in the 3-2 win over Cornell. She added a five point-game in the NEC Semifinal win over Quinnipiac as she scored twice and assisted on another LHU tally.

Lewis, a junior-back led LHU’s stingy defense. Prior to this All-Region selection she was named NEC Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Lewis was the key for The Haven’s tough defensive unit that allowed only 24 goals during the regular season. Lock Haven’s strong defensive play carried over to the post-season, where LHU only gave up one goal during the NEC tournament, outscoring opponents 7-1 in two matches.

Lewis chipped in on offense as well with three goals and 13 assists, as she played a key role on penalty corners. Her 13 helpers were second-best on the team.

Lewis’s strong defensive play help hold opponents to just 107 shots on goal in 23 matches played this season. She also led a defense that held its opponents to a 1.50 goals-against-average.

The Lady Eagles dominating defense only allowed three goals during conference play thanks in large part to the efforts of Lewis.

Hordendorf, also a NEC First-Teamer helped pace Lock Haven’s explosive attack up front.

LHU’s dominate offense outscored opponents 69-27, thanks in large part to Hordendorf, who scored a conference-best 19 goals during the regular season. She finished the year with 20 goals and six assists (46 points).

Hordendorf’s 20 goals were tied for a team-high, as she recorded a goal in 13 different matches. She scored multiple goals in six different contests.
