LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women’s basketball team (1-3) had six different players score in double-figures, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Eagles fell to Shepherd University (3-4) 88-80 tonight in Thomas Fieldhouse.
With the non-conference loss, Lock Haven falls to 1-3 on the young season after being edged by the Rams tonight.
Lock Haven was down by 21 with just over five minutes to play, but rallied to the cut lead late. In the end the Lady Eagles comeback bid was cut short despite a tremendous effort on their home court.
Freshman Peaches Nesmith (Philadelphia/Northeast) had a team-high 17 points and led a total of six players in double-figures for LHU.
Lauren Kelshaw (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) knocked down 14 and rookie Sharay Hall (Philadelphia/Carver) added 11 points.
The trio of Milan Dry (Baltimore/Dunbar), Casi Doneland (Fairfax, Va./Goldey-Beacom College) and Malika Miller (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) all netted 12 points for LHU.
All six players turned in solid efforts on the boards as well.
Hall led the way with a team-high nine boards, while Kelshaw and Donelan both grabbed eight.
Donelan was solid defensively for The Haven as all eight of her rebounds came on the defensive side of the ball for the Lady Eagles. She also had four assists, one steal and one block.
Dry added six rebounds.
Lock Haven shot 38 percent from the field tonight and was solid at the line, shooting 74 percent from the free-throw stripe.
Shepherd was led by Katie Warehime, who had a game-high 21 points.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Friday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. when they travel to local-rival Bloomsburg University for Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover action.
