LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Two members of the Lock Haven University men’s and women’s track & field team have earned Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Track Athlete of the Week honors.
The Bald Eagles Chris Edelman (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) was named PSAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week and Shala Simms (Ardmore, Pa./Upper Darby) of the Lady Eagles squad was named PSAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.
Edelman kicked off 2009 with a bang at the Penn State Relays on Saturday. He took second overall in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:04.23.
His sensational early season mark broke his own school record and set an all-time PSAC mark.
Edelman was also a key part of LHU’s third-place 4x400 meter relay. The Bald Eagles clocked a 3.22.70, which is a conference qualify mark and a very solid time for early in the season.
Edelman, who had a busy day came back and was part of The Haven’s sprint medley relay team that broke a LHU school record, while placing third with a time of 3:34.43.
Simms had a spectacular day last Saturday, participating for Lock Haven at the Penn State Relays. She was key in helping the Lady Eagles to a first place finish in record breaking fashion in the sprint medley relay.
LHU took first place overall in the event with a time of 4:10.11, which broke an all-time PSAC record that was previously set in 2004 and the time also shattered the previous Lock Haven school record.
Simms anchored the relay with an 800 meter split of 2:14.5, which is better than her current individual school record.
Simms also took part in LHU’s second place 4xMile relay. She ran an impressive 5:07 mile split to help the Lady Eagles clock a record time of 21:28.55.
Both Edelman and Simms will lead The Haven back to action on Saturday, Jan. 17 at Penn State Open.
