EAST STROUSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams wrapped up competition today at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.
There were a number of tremendous individual performances inside East Stroudsburg’s Koehler Fieldhouse, which kept Lock Haven right in the thick of it for the team titles.
The Bald Eagles ended being edged by Shippensburg for the team title by just five points.
The Haven men were second with 129 points, while Ship won with 134. Host-ESU rounded out the top-three teams on the men’s side with 120 points.
On the women’s side, the Lady Eagles were third overall with 101 points.
Slippery Rock took home the women’s title with 146 points, while Shippensburg was second with 142.
Much like last night, Lock Haven was very solid individually.
Along with Tim Getz’s (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) individual title last night in the 5K, the Bald Eagles took home a total of four individual championships.
The Lock Haven claimed three today.
Greg Mock (Sicklerville, N.J./Timbercreek), Chris Edelman (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and Ben McConnell (Danville, Pa./Danville) all claimed individual titles to help pace Lock Haven today.
The Lady Eagles crowned two individual champions.
Last night Vanita Moses (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) took home top honors in the weight throw and today All-American Chelsea Morse (Beaver Dams, N.Y./Campbell-Savona) came up big for LHU in a big-meet setting once again and won the high jump.
Mock was first in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.35, Edelman dominated the 400 meter dash in sizzling fashion (48.82) and McConnell won the 800 meter run with a stellar time of 1:55.83.
Mock set a LHU school record with his 55 meter time of 6.35 and Edelman’s mark established a PSAC Championship meet record.
Nick Hilton (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) had a fantastic meet as he turned in a workmanlike triple. He was second in the mile (4:17.58), third in the 3K (8:42.66) and added a fifth place showing in the 800 (1:58.41).
The 800, mile and 3K were all solid events for the Bald Eagles. Justin Amy (Sweet Valley, Pa./Lake-Lehman) added a sixth place finish in the 800 (1:58.51).
Brandon Pomerantz (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) was right behind Hilton in the mile and took third with a time of 4;18.29.
Along with Hilton in the 3K, LHU also went 6-7-8 in the event. Mitch Miller (Morrisville, NY/Morrisville-Eaton)was sixth, Getz was seventh and AJ Johnson (Coventry, R.I./Coventry) was eighth.
Tyler Thomas (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) added a third-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 49-11.25.
The Bald Eagles 4x400 meter relay was also victorious with a time of 3:19.98.
The Lady Eagles were led by Moses and Morse.
Morse, who was fourth in the long jump last night came back to win her bread-and-butter event today in the high jump. She took home top honors with a mark of 5-7.75.
The Haven women were also represented well by mid-distance standouts Shala Simms (Ardmore, Pa./Upper Darby) and Alyssa Douma (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) . Simms was fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:15.32, while Douma added a seventh-place finish.
Douma also took sixth in the mile with a time of 5:07.11. Her time shattered the school record by seven seconds.
Lindsey Lambert (Howell, N.J./Howell), who was fourth in the last night’s 5K added a sixth-place showing in today’s 3K (10:13.35). Lambert’s set school records in both the 3K and 5K.
The Lady Eagles again proved to force to be reckoned with in the shot put. JaKia Gumby (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) was third (40-09), Moses was fifth (40-01.50) and Alaina Leonard (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) was sixth (39-02.50).
The Lady Eagles 4x4 finished third overall with a time of 3:58.75. Last night LHU’s first-place performance in the 4x800 meter relay set a Haven record as well as PSAC Championship record.
Lock Haven will back in action on March 13-14 at the 24th annual NCAA Division II Track and Field National Championships. This year’s championships are in Houston, Texas and are part of the D-II Winter Sports Festival. The track & field championships will be held at the University of Houston.
