Bald Eagles fall to Gannon 3-1 in Winter Haven

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (2-9) was edged by Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West-foe Gannon University (2-4) 3-1 today in Winter Haven, Fla. in a scheduled nine-inning outing.

The game proved to be a pitchers’ dual with a combined 22 strikeouts.

Bald Eagle-newcomer Jeremy Cook (Venice, Fla./Venice) got the start on the mound and was sensational. He went eight innings and struck out nine. He allowed just five hits and gave up four walks.

Gannon’s Greg Radwan was strong on the mound as well and struck out 13.

Lock Haven took the lead in the top of the first inning on a Mark Strouse (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) RBI single that drove home Evan Petro (Johnstown, Pa./Richland), who had reached base on an error.

That would be the only run LHU would score as it recorded five hits on the day.

Lock Haven’s lead was short lived as Gannon took the lead in the bottom of the first, after scoring two runs.

Gannon, tacked on a run in the eighth as its three runs came off five hits.

Brian Kochik (Snow Shoe, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) pitched the final inning for LHU and retired the side easily.

Along with Strouse and Cook, Matt McCamley (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola), Chris Williford (Norfolk, Va./Granby) and Ryan Griffin (Lansdale, Pa./Methacton) all recorded hits for The Haven.

The Bald Eagles are back in action tomorrow in Florida when they take on the University of Missouri-St. Louis at 8 p.m.

Game Boxscore not available. Full LHU stats will be updated following the Bald Eagles Spring Break trip to Winter Haven, Fla.
