Fittery wins EWL title, Bald Eagles finish fifth at 34th annual EWL Championships
 

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Senior Matt Fittery (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) of the Lock Haven University wrestling team is headed to St. Louis, Mo. after qualify for the NCAA Division I National Championships by was of his 149-pound Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) title.

Fittery took home the crown tonight in Thomas Field as the Bald Eagles played host to the 34th annual league championships.

Lock Haven was also led by one second-place and two third-place finishers.

LHU was fifth overall with 80 points.

Edinboro took home the team title on the power of four individual champions. The Fighting Scots scored 126.50 points.

Fittery went 2-0, to advance to the championship-bout.

He downed Bloomsburg’s George Hickman in the final 4-2, avenging a dual-meet loss.

Senior Ben Hepburn (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) was second at 197 after dropping a 2-1 overtime decision to Edinboro’s Pat Bradshaw.

Billy Ashnault (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) and Tom Kocher (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) both placed third for The Haven.

Fittery will be back in action at the NCAA Championships, which kick off on March 19 in St. Louis.
