Bald Eagles split with IUP in PSAC West Opener

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (5-13, 1-1 PSAC West) split a doubleheader with Indiana (Pa.) University (5-1, 1-1 PSAC West) today at Point Stadium in Johnstown, Pa.

The Bald Eagles lost game one 6-1, but picked up the victory in the second game 3-2 on the power of a two-hitter by pitcher Jordon Yohn (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon).

Lock Haven recorded three hits in game one and got solid pitching from Andrew Simonik (Jermyn, Pa./Lakeland), but LHU dropped game one of the twin bill 6-1.

Simonik went six innings and struck out five. He gave up six runs on six hits and allowed just three walks. Three of IUP’s six runs were earned.

Evan Petro (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) was the big bat in game one for The Haven, as he picked up two of Lock Haven’s three hits.

Game two saw Lock Haven picked up the 3-2 win over IUP, thanks in large part to an outstanding effort on the mound by Yohn.

Yohn was the hero for Lock Haven as he pitched a two-hitter.

Yohn dominated the Crimson Hawk batters as he recorded eight strikeouts while walking nobody. IUP’s two runs came off a two-run home run in the first inning, but following that home run Yohn completely shut down Indiana.

Lock Haven recorded eight hits in game two and LHU was led by Zach Schuler (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Spring Grove), who went 3-for-3 at the plate.

The Bald Eagles host IUP tomorrow at 1 p.m. in doubleheader action.

IUP is ranked No. 7 in this week’s National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Region Poll.

Boxscores not yet available. Full Lock Haven season stats will updated following this weekend’s competition.
