#9 Softball wins 11-0 and 11-1 at Clarion, Erb closes in on all-time NCAA D-II wins record

CLARION, Pa. - The No. 9 Lock Haven University softball team (23-4, 4-0 PSAC Central) swept Clarion University (4-16, 0-6 PSAC Central) today on the road in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division action.

The Lady Eagles had the bats going and pitcher Kristin Erb (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) turned in two solid outings, as LHU won 11-0 and 11-1.

Erb picked up the win in both games and in doing so, runs her career record to 140-16. Her 140 wins put her just one win away from tying the NCAA Division II mark for all-time wins by a pitcher.

The record is 141 wins, which was set by California (Pa.) University’s Danielle Penner (1995-98).

Tomorrow (Wednesday, April 1), Erb could both tie and break the NCAA mark as LHU plays host to Indiana (Pa.) University.

Lock Haven jumped all over the Golden Eagles early in game one, posting a seven-run first inning and LHU eventually winning 11-0 in five.

LHU’s 11 runs came off 13 hits.

Leading the way at the plate for Lock Haven was Julia Popovich (Lemont, Pa./State College), who went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.

Amanda Roosa (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Erb pitched a no-hitter in game one and struck out five on the way to the win.

Erb also got the win in game two, as she hurled three shutout innings, allowing just one hit while leading LHU past Clarion 11-1 in five innings.

The Lady Eagles 11 runs came off 13 hits.

Nancy O’Connor (West Chester, Pa./West Chester) led the way at the plate with a 3-for-3 game, which included six RBIs.

Popovich had another big game, going 2-for-3 with another home run and two RBIs.

The Lady Eagles are right back at it tomorrow when they host IUP in PSAC Central Division action. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. at Lawrence Field.
