Erb breaks all-time NCAA D-II wins record, #6 Lady Eagles sweep IUP in PSAC Central action

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Senior pitcher Kristin Erb (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) of the No. 6 Lock Haven University softball team (25-4, 6-0 PSAC Central) made history today on Lawrence Field, as her two victories in the circle helped her set an all-time record for wins by a NCAA Division II pitcher.

The Lady Eagles won 5-0 in both games.

Erb led LHU past Indiana (Pa.) University, while picking the win in both games of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central doubleheader. With the two wins LHU improves to 25-4 overall and 6-0 in PSAC Central play.

With her second win of the day, Erb moved past California (Pa.) University’s Danielle Penner (1995-98), who previously held the record for wins with 141.

Erb won game one today on the power of an 11-strikeout effort to tie Penner’s record.

It looked as if Erb was going to flirt with perfection on the way to tying the record, as she pitched a perfect game through 5.2 innings.

Erb earned the win in game two, breaking the all-time wins record with a nine-strikeout outing.

Erb now has 142 wins to stand alone at the top of the D-II pitching record books.

Her impressive career record sits at 142-16.

LHU took game one 5-0.

Sarah Norris (West Chester, Pa./West Chester) and Erica Eisenbise (Wernersville,Pa./Wilson) led the offensive charge for The Haven.

Norris went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while driving in two runs. She also hit a solo home run to left-center.

Eisenbise had two hits and two RBIs.

Erb turned in another strong showing in the pitching circle, as she picked up another complete-game shutout.

She was nearly flawless, as she gave up only one hit and struck out 11 Crimson Hawk batters en route to tying the all-time Division II record for wins with 141.

Erb was also a threat at the plate, as she singled and drove in a run in the win.

Game two was quite reminiscent of game one with LHU downing IUP 5-0 for the second time in as many games.

Norris went yard once again and finished with three hits and one RBI in the 5-0 shutout.

Brittany Muthard (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Amanda Roosa (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) went 2-for-2 and Illia Lopez (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) had one hit and one RBI for Lock Haven.

Erb gave up only one hit in the top of the third, but it did not shake her confidence as she went on to strike out nine and picked up win number-24 on the season..

The win also helped her set the record.

The Lady Eagles are back in action tomorrow, April 3 as they travel to Bloomsburg for a PSAC Central Division doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
