WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (16-28, 9-9 PSAC West) split a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West doubleheader today on the road at California (Pa.) University (28-11, 13-5 PSAC West).
The Bald Eagles took game one, 5-4, but fell in second of two, 6-4.
Lock Haven picked up the win in game one, thanks to a home run by Mark Strouse (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) in the top of the seventh.
LHU pitcher Andrew Simonik (Jermyn, Pa./Lakeland) followed up Strouse’s top of the seventh bomb with a 1-2-3 inning.
Simonik was a huge key for the Bald Eagles, as he went the full seven innings, while picking up the win on the mound. Simonik allowed four runs on eight hits. He walked only three and struck out four.
Lock Haven’s five runs came off eight hits.
Strouse led the way the plate, as he went 2-for-3.
Scott Gaston (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergen Catholic) led LHU with three RBIs.
LHU dropped game two 6-4.
The Haven bats were there in game two, as LHU scored its four runs on 10 hits.
Ryan Griffin (Lansdale, Pa./Methacton) led the Bald Eagles at the plate in game two, as he recorded three of The Haven’s 10 hits. Griffin went a perfect 3-for-3.
Matt Palko (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) homered and drove in two.
Jordan Yohn (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) took the loss on the mound for LHU.
The Bald Eagles return to action tomorrow (Saturday, April 18) at 1 p.m. when they host this same Cal team.
