Bald Eagles drop two to California at home in PSAC West action

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (16-30, 9-11 PSAC West) dropped both games of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division doubleheader to California (Pa.) University (30-11, 15-5 PSAC West) today at home on Foundation Field.

The Bald Eagles rallied late in both games, but fell 4-3 and 8-6.

With the two losses LHU falls to 9-11 in PSAC West action, but it is still in contention for a playoff spot.

LHU fell in game one, 4-3 despite tying the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Evan Petro (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) led LHU at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Petro’s RBI was a timely one, as it came in the bottom of the sixth when he drove in Jeremie Cook (Venice, Fla./Venice), tying the game at 3-3.

Cal, however was able to find the winning run in the top of the seventh.

Tyler Rumsey (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield High School) got the start on the mound in game one for the Bald Eagles, but gave way to local-product Josh Rote (McElhattan, Pa./Central Mountain), who pitched six sensational innings for LHU.

Rote only gave up five hits and allowed just one run. He struck out six.

In game two, Lock Haven fans were treated to another thriller as LHU looked to rally again late.

Down 7-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, LHU struck up a little two-out magic and tacked on five runs to make it 7-6 heading into the final inning.

A key to Lock Haven’s five-run inning was a three-run home run by Zach Schuler (York Haven, Pa./Spring Grove). Schuler went 2-for-4 in the game.

Mark Strouse (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) and Scott Gaston (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergen Catholic) both went 2-for-4 at the plate as well.

Ted Stake (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) went 2-for-3.

The Bald Eagles return to action on Tuesday, April 21 at 1 p.m. when they travel to Mansfield University.
