LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s track & field team took advantage of the gorgeous weather yesterday and turned in another sensational outing at Bucknell University Team Challenge.
LHU co-head coach Aaron Russell was very pleased with the performances of both teams, saying that things are a really sharpening up for the Bald and Lady Eagles.
The day was filled with a number of tremendous performances.
Lock Haven was the only NCAA Division II team in the seven-team field yesterday at Bucknell.
The Lady Eagles finished second overall and The Haven men were fourth.
The Haven women were second (94 points) to only host-Bucknell, who took home the team-title with 27 points. Mount St. Mary’s rounded out the top three on the women’s side.
The Bald Eagles were fourth with 74 points, behind first-place Bucknell (205 pts.), St. Francis (89 pts.) and Mount St. Mary’s (77 pts.).
Leading the way for the Lady Eagles was senior Chelsea Morse (Beaver Dams, N.Y./Campbell-Savona) and women’s throwing corps.
Morse led a 1-2 Haven finish in the high jump, as she took home first-place honors with a mark of 5-5. She was also second in the long jump with a mark of 17-5.25.
Lauren Edelman (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) was second in the high jump with a mark of 5-3.
The Lady Eagles were once again dominant in the throwing events.
JaKia Gumby (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) led the way with a big win the discus. Gumby took first with a throw of 133-01.
The Lady Eagles also went 2-4-5-6-7-9 in the hammer throw.
Kristie Warren (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) was third in the triple jump with a mark of 37-01.25.
Shala Simms (Ardmore, Pa./Upper Darby) was second in the 800 meter run with a NCAA D-II qualifying mark of 2:14.31.
Chris Edelman (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) continued his recent run of success with a second-place finish in the 400 meter dash. Edelman recorded another sensational time with a run of 48.00.
Mitch Miller (Morrisville, NY/Morrisville-Eaton) picked up a big win, as the rookie took home first-place in the steeplechase with a time of 9:29.9.
Nick Hilton (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) was fourth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 3:58.75.
The Bald Eagles also got some solid points from their throwers.
Leading the way was Randy Sylvia (Johnstown, Pa./Richland), who was third in the hammer with a throw of 176-09.
Logan Wolfe (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and Chad Yurchick (Johnsonburg, Pa./Johnson burg) came up huge for the Bald Eagles and went 2-3 in the discus. Wolfe recorded a mark of 154-11, while Yurchick was third with a toss of 152-04, as the two helped The Haven men’s solid day.
The Lady Eagles 4x800 meter relay team also broke a school record with a time of 9:38.31.
The Bald Eagles got solid relays wins from their 4x400 (3:16.11) and 4x100 (42.23) meter relay teams.
Lock Haven will be back in action later this week, as several Bald and Lady Eagles will head to Philadelphia to take part in the prestigious Penn Relay Carnival. The Penn Relays are Thursday-Saturday, April 23-25 at the University’s of Penn’s historic Franklin Field.
